Freedom, Land, and Community:
A History of McLean County
(IN-PERSON Session CANCELLED)
Join local historian Greg Koos as he discusses his new book Freedom, Land, and Community: A History of McLean County Illinois, 1730‐1900. Koos’ book tells the story of the diverse people and events which make up our county’s history. Koos relates the struggle to shape the land, build community, and secure freedom as these residents — indigenous peoples, African Americans, Irish immigrants, and German immigrants — knew and defined it. People whose voices have not been heard in previous works about Central Illinois are included here.
Koos led the McLean County Museum of History in Bloomington, Illinois from 1977 to 2016. His work there was recognized with numerous state and national awards. His historical research has been published in the United States and Ireland. Koos lives with his wife, Carol, in his hometown of Bloomington, Illinois.
A book signing will follow this presentation at the library. This is an opportunity to get a signed copy of the book and meet the author! Books will be available for purchase during the signing.
