Local History Help

Local Patrons
Local residents needing local or family history information are invited to contact the library to learn about the resources that are available to them.

Out of Area Patrons
If a patron living outside our library service area needs help finding local or family history information the library will complete the requested research for a fee. The charge is $5 for each 30 minutes of research, plus the cost of any copies made (15 cents per page). A "typical" search for an obituary in our local paper costs $5.15.

Requests are researched on a first-come/first-served basis and are completed as staff time permits. Research fees still apply if staff are unable to find the requested information. In this case, our librarians often make referrals. Bloomington Public Library reserves the right to limit or refuse research requests.

To request assistance, please complete the below form. Patrons can also ask a librarian at the Adult Help Desk or call 309.590.6168 for assistance.
